Delhi man arrested after spitting paan at a Manipuri woman and calling her coronaviris

A 40 year old man in Delhi was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly calling a Manipuri woman ‘coronavirus’ and spitting paan on her face.

The incident took place in Delhi’s Vijay Nagar when a man slowed down his scooter and spat paan on the woman’s face.

The woman lodged a complaint at Mukherjee Nagar police station against the man on Sunday. Following the complaint a case was registered under Indian Penal Code section 506 for word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman.

The police investigated the matter and during the investigation the CCTV footage of Vijay Nagar was analysed. The police searched for a white scooter which the man had been riding.

After the scooter was identified by the police they located the man and arrested him on Wednesday. The police have also recovered the vehicle from his possession.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police North West, Vijayanta Arya said that the man has been identified as Gaurav Vohra, a resident of Model Town who works at a pressure cooker manufacturing unit in Delhi’s Anand Parbat.

Similar incidents has arisen in different parts of India where northeastern citizens have been abused verbally, mentally and physically since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus which originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan.
