PM Modi May Launch Khelo India Youth Games in Assam on January 10
The chief executive officer (CEO) of Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG), Avinash Joshi declared at a joint press conference in Guwahati on Thursday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi likely to launch the opening ceremony of the game. “Prime Minister of India may inaugurate the opening ceremony in presence of Chief Minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal and Union MoS (independent charge) for Sports Kiren Rijiju,” Mr Joshi said.
The chief of KIYG also said, the 3rd edition of Khelo India 2020 will be started on January 10 and will continue till January 22. The opening ceremony will take place at the Indira Gandhi Stadium.
Assam is all set to experience the mega sporting event where as many as 6800 athletes, 3000 supporting staff and 1500 volunteers will take part. More than 10,000 participants will be competing at 11 venues in Guwahati. Reportedly, all the 29 states will be taking part in the event. The venues will be handed over to the Games Technical Conduct Committee (GTCC) after Wednesday.
The announcement comes after a critical situation all over the state due to the protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act. Joshi claimed the game is going to be much bigger than the previous two events. However, the organizers refused to name the stars. But Joshi said several well-known personalities from sports and music will be present there.
Joshi also stated that Star Sports will live telecast the Game for eight to nine hours every day. The passes of the Games is available for all and can be collected from the stadiums. The Khelo India programme aims to rejuvenate India’s sports culture and thereby establish India as a great sporting nation.
