Special Grade Assam Tea Sold for Rs 75,000 Per Kg
Manohari Tea Estate of Dibrugarh records a special tea sale for Rs. 75,000 per kg at the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre.
Lockdown and the pandemic turned out to be a boon for the Assam tea industry with prices of tea scaling up after years of being stagnant growth.
Due to various reasons, the fall of the Darjeeling tea market has also positively affected the tea industry of Assam.
The special tea named Manohari Gold grade got sold by auctioneer Contemporary Brokers Pvt. Ltd at Rs. 75,000 per kg.
Guwahati-based tea trader Vishnu Tea Company purchased it, and it will be reportedly sold across the world on their e-commerce website named 9amtea.com.
Secretary of Guwahati Tea Auction Buyer’s Association (GTABA), Dinesh Bihani said to PTI,
“This is a great achievement amidst global pandemic when the entire world is affected. Manohari Tea Estate has made extra effort to produce this speciality tea in the month of September and sent it to GTAC for sale”,
In 2019, the same tea brand got auctioned for Rs. 50000 per kg. While Dikom Tea Estate-the Golden Butterfly tea has the record of selling for Rs 75,000 per kg.
